CURRICULUM OF THE THEATRE COMPANY
FROM ATMO COMPANY TO PICCOLO NUOVO TEATRO
It all began in the eighties with the Children's Theatre. An extensive series of shows dedicated to a teenage audience, staged in schools and theatre circuits. In the late eighties Theatre Company ATMO began a new path of research aimed at involving an adult audience as well. The goal is to create a unique and original form of theatre that finds its roots in the Italian Renaissance theatre.
- The constant research, dedication and experimentation led to a very innovative result. A new and unique form of theatre was born, extremely spectacular and involving, an innovative form of communication made of images and strong emotions. As part of this step we adopted the use of stilts and costumes worn by the actors. New devices for special effects and pyrotechnics were included. In this way the costumes became spectacular pyrotechnic machinery. The path of transformation led the company to produce shows no longer designed for theatre stages or children's theatre, but aimed more at popular or street theatre.
- The unusual costumes, actors that lightly and in a synchronous way dance on stilts, immersive music, the magic, the charm, the spectacle of fire and pyrotechnics accompanied by the stories told, inspired by the myths and legends of the past, led the Company to achieve great success both nationally and internationally.
- Then as now, all elements of the show are conceived, designed and manufactured in the workrooms of the theatre company: from the texts to stage-management, from scenography to the theatrical pyrotechnic machines up to the masks and costumes.
- The founders of the Piccolo Teatro Nuovo became part of the ATMO company in 1997 and soon became the new essential core.
